8th Invest in ME Research Biomedical Research into ME Colloquium 2018

Colloquium Awarded Maximum CPD Points by Royal Colleges of the UK

We previously reported that our thirteenth International ME Conference on 1st June had been awarded maximum CPD-accreditation.

BRMEC8

But preceding the conference will be our 8th International Biomedical Research into ME Colloquium - #BRMEC8 And now #BRMEC8 has also been awarded maximum points by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.

This amounts to 12 points for the two-day research meeting - or 18 points if also attending the 13th Invest in ME Research International ME Conference on 1st June.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. It enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive.

Engaging in CPD activities ensures that both academic and practical qualifications do not become out-dated or obsolete; allowing individuals to continually ‘up skill’ or ‘re-skill’ themselves, regardless of occupation, age or educational level.

This all enhances progress in ME research and awareness and understanding.

Continuing Professional Development

From the Royal College of Physicians web site FAQ

CPD is any learning outside of undergraduate education or postgraduate training that helps you maintain and improve your performance. It covers the development of your knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours across all areas of your professional practice. It includes both formal and informal learning activities and can be clinical (specialty related) or non-clinical (such as management, leadership or communication skills etc.).

CPD activities should maintain and improve a doctor’s: a) Quality of care given to patients and the public b) Standards of their teams and the services in which they work.

CPD helps doctors to update what they have learnt at medical school and during postgraduate training to reflect changes in practice, changes in the needs of patients and the service, and changes in society’s expectations of the way doctors work.

Doctors need a minimum of 50 CPD credits per year of which 25 must be external (category 1) credits.
