Invest in ME Research Colloquium/Conference Site

Invest in ME Research (IIMER) is a UK charity facilitating and funding a strategy of biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME or ME/CFS) and promoting better education about ME.

Since 2006 the charity has been arranging an annual international CPD-accedited biomedical research conference on ME. For six years the charity has been organising an annual international CPD-accedited biomedical research Colloquium on ME aimed at increasing international collaboration on research into ME..

The IiMER annual conferences and research colloquiums arranged by the charity now attract presenters, researchers, physicians, patient groups and journalists from around the world.

On this site one will find a description of the latest conference and colloquium and links to previous conferences/colloquiums including details of the presenters and the DVDs from the conferences.

Background Information on the Conferences

Who We Are

We are an independent UK charity campaigning for bio-medical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), as defined by WHO-ICD-10-G93.3. We have links nationwide and also internationally. Invest in ME Research is one of the founding members of The European ME Alliance. Our aim is to bring together like-minded individuals and groups to campaign for research and funding to establish an understanding of the Aetiology, Pathogenesis and Epidemiology of ME. Invest in ME Research wish to establish a national strategy of biomedical research into ME. and establish a UK/European Centre of Excellence for translational biomedical research into ME.

Why Attend?

With increasing research evidence of immune dysfunction in ME patients and with the MRC stating that there is evidence supporting the view that inflammatory mechanisms in the brain and spinal cord may underlie the pathophysiology of some severe disease ME phenotypes then now is the time to hear of the research coming together to benefit patients and doctors. The conference provides an opportunity to learn of the current developments and future plans in ME research and network with an international mix of healthcare professionals, researchers, charities and patients.

Sponsored Profs

By working with local support groups GPs (or other healthcare professionals) will be able to become far more aware of the current research, knowledge, treatments and support available for people with ME and this will hopefully lead to a closer working relationship with the local ME Support group and its members. Therefore, IiMER offer the Sponsored Professional concessionary rate whereby we give a discounted rate for a medical professional who attends the conference when linked to an ME support group. There is no cost to the ME Support group and, with maximum CPD accreditation for the conference, the event can count towards professional education.

Conference Agenda

Our conference theme is Centres of Excellence. Since 2006 IiMER has organised an annual international ME conference and each conference has been a stepping stone for the next one. There has been considerable progress in the last few years especially due to the ground breaking Norwegian research by Fluge et al which showed benefit from rituximab treatment of ME patients. ME research is at a stage where progress is steadily being made. ME research is an exciting area to be involved in at the moment and Invest in ME Research is proud to be part of the new developments.

Our Sponsors

As a small charity we welcome sponsorship. The conference events attract researchers, clinicians, healthcare professionals and patient group representatives from all over the world and the conference provides an ideal opportunity to provide education and information relevant to attendees. If you would like to help us by sponsoring the conference or by taking one of our sponsor tables in order to distribute information then please use the Contact Us page to discuss more.
Or look at the sponsorship opportunities at this link.

Conference Events

The charity also organises and hosts an international research meeting prior to the conference. This brings together many different researchers and clinicians from around the world to meet and share in a collaborative manner. The charity also hosts a pre-conference dinner and we endeavour to have a speaker presenting information and views on a relevant topic.

Past Conferences

Invest in ME Research have been organising the International ME Conferences for twelve years - always in the heart of London.
Each conference has been CPD-accredited and each conference has been recorded in full on DVDs - which are all available for purchase.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The IIMEC* conferences attract researchers, professionals working in healthcare (GPs, nurses, paediatricians etc.), students, media personnel, politicians and ME patient groups, patients and carers from around the world. It is therefore a unique event providing potential sponsors with an opportunity to reach a wide range of interest groups, as well as targeted individual groups.
The IIMEC* conferences maintain a friendly atmosphere with the focus on research, treatments and progress.
To enable us to provide the best Conference possible we welcome donations or sponsorship from companies, organisations, support groups and individuals to make the International ME Conferences and Colloquiums a success.

Invest in ME Research - Mainstreaming Research into ME

Invest in ME Research Projects

Possibly the two most important research projects for ME in the UK
Both initiated and funded by Invest in ME Research and our supporters

IIMER are facilitating a strategy of biomedical research into ME. The charity is currently funding possibly the two most important research projects for ME in the UK.
Currently the main hubs of research are at UEA/IFR in the Norwich Research Park and at UCL. These involve a gut microbiota project at UEA/IFR in the Norwich Research Park and B cell research at UCL in London, leading to a clinical trial of rituximab.

Advisory Board

The IIMER Advisory Board is made up of eminent researchers who are helping the charity to form a credible and productive biomedical research strategy which will provide the best and quickest route for possible treatments and cures for this disease.

Research Funding

Invest in ME Research supports high quality, biomedical research into myalgic encephalomyelitis. We are open for applications for funding for such research and the charity welcomes applications for grants for projects of 6 months - 3 years duration.

Let's Do It For ME

Let's do it for ME! is a patient-driven campaign to raise awareness and vital funds for a UK centre of excellence for translational biomedical ME research, clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients, training and information for healthcare staff, based around the Norwich Research Park in the UK and aiming to work collaboratively with international biomedical researchers.

Research Colloquiums

In addition to the International ME Conference the charity also organises an annual International Research Colloquium which attracts researchers from around the world in order to discuss experiences and open up collaborations in order to find answers for this disease.

Centre of Excellence for ME

Translational biomedical research - an iterative feedback of information between the basic and clinical research domains in order to accelerate knowledge translation from lab to bedside and back to lab again - allows translation of findings in basic research more quickly and efficiently into medical practice to produce more meaningful health outcomes and facilitate the sharing of repositories and research-based facilities and laboratories. This is the model IiMER are attempting to promote in the proposal for an examination and research facility based in Norwich.
